Childhood and Spiritual Inclination

As a child, Garib Das Ji used to graze cows along with other cowherds. He had a very calm, simple, and truth-loving nature. One day, while having lunch with his friends, an extraordinary event occurred that changed the course of his life.

Meeting the Supreme God Kabir Sahib

At the age of 10, Sant Garib Das Ji was sitting under a Jand tree in the fields near Kablana village, having food with his fellow cowherds. At that moment, Supreme God Kabir Sahib manifested from Satlok and appeared before them to impart true spiritual knowledge.

When the cowherds saw Kabir Sahib, they greeted him by saying, “Baba Ji, Ram-Ram!” Kabir Sahib responded, “Ram-Ram!”

The Miracle of Virgin Cow’s Milk

The cowherds invited Kabir Sahib to have food with them, but He declined, saying that He had already eaten. The boys insisted that at least He should drink some milk, as they would not let a guest leave without offering something.

Kabir Sahib said, “I only drink the milk of a virgin cow.”

The cowherds laughed and replied, “Baba Ji! Are you joking? A virgin cow cannot give milk!”

At that moment, young Garib Das Ji brought a 1.5- to 2-year-old heifer to Kabir Sahib. When Kabir Sahib placed His hand on the heifer’s back, a miracle occurred – her udders developed, and she started giving milk. Kabir Sahib collected the milk in an earthen pot and drank it.

The other cowherds refused to drink this milk, but Garib Das Ji considered it divine nectar and drank it without hesitation. This event awakened his spiritual consciousness, and he attained divine wisdom.
